In order to provide comprehensive service to our clients, we try to provide as much information to the client as possible in order for them to make an informed decision about their fire hydrant needs. Information such as manufacturer's maintenance recommendations for proper performance is one of them. We contacted Clow Canada, a leading fire hydrant manufacturer in Canada for their recommendations.

Clow Canada's Recommendation

"Clow Canada recommends that hydrants be maintained on an annual basis. It is our experience that when hydrants do not receive regular maintenance they will not provide the service that is expected of them.

At a minimum, hydrants should be greased and the “O” rings that seal the cone/housing/operating nut should be changed. All other parts should be inspected for wear and tear.

We recommend that hydrants are greased on an annual basis to maintain ease of operation and that “O” rings are changed to ensure that they do not become brittle and thereby lose the ability to provide an adequate seal.

As a matter of information, Clow Canada’s warranty on fire hydrants is 5 yrs."
